Anne Hathaway didn’t have a choice about chopping her shoulder-length hair and adopting a super-short crop: her role in Les Misérables called for the severe ‘do. But don’t expect the actress to start growing out her hair just because the film has wrapped.

“I love the short-haired lifestyle,” Hathaway says in the December issue of Vogue. “I’m turning 30, and — I hope this isn’t obnoxious to say — I feel prettier, and much more myself. I guess I just feel much more satisfied with less now.”

Something else the actress felt beautiful in? Her custom ivory-and-pink Valentino wedding dress. Hathaway ended up loving the gown, but says that during the start of the design process, she and Valentino weren’t seeing eye-to-eye. “I begged him during the first fitting to make the train detachable. He looked at me and said, ‘But it is a dress, not a costume.’”

Hathaway ended up taking the designer’s advice — and is glad she did. “He somehow read my mind and designed the dress that I’d always wanted,” she shares. Non-detachable train and all.
